Biography

Asanda Mngadi is a versatile and passionate actor, singer, and dancer, trained at the Waterfront Theatre School. During his training, he portrayed Jud Fry in the 80th Anniversary production of Oklahoma! at the Artscape Arena, earning a BroadwayWorld nomination for Best Performer in a Musical. Most recently, Asanda captivated audiences in the South African premiere of Everybody’s Talking About Jamie (2025), in the iconic dual role of Hugo/Loco Chanel. His other theatre credits include Finding the Light (Artscape Opera, 2024), Naledi’s Dream (V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre, 2024), Something Rotten as Minstrel/Brother Jeremiah (The Galloway, 2023), Pinocchio as Geppetto/Stromboli (The Baxter, 2023), Kids’ Holiday Rock (Sibaya Theatre, 2022), Pippin as Lewis (The Galloway, 2022), the WTS 25th Anniversary Cabaret as Soloist (2022), Photograph (Theatre on the Bay, 2021), and Tussen (Woordfees, 2020). Priding himself in his dynamic stage presence, strong physical storytelling, and rich, grounded vocal quality, Asanda works on bringing emotional honesty, precision, and creative detail to every role. His work spans musical theatre, contemporary productions, children’s theatre, movement-based performance, and large-scale concerts, showcasing his adaptability and artistic maturity. Excited to further pursue his professional career, Asanda looks forward to expanding into film and television, continuing to bring authenticity, bold storytelling, and fully realized characters to every performance.
