Itumeleng, best known as Tumee- was born in the east of Johannesburg in 1995. She studied drama and film at the Tshwane University of Technology, completing her degree in 2018. During her 2nd year, she landed her first role in a short film- Hunch directed by Sidwell Zwane, and received the ‘best actress on screenplay’ award at the TUT Awards 2015 for an outstanding portrayal of her character. 2016, Tumee landed her first lead role in the short film "To Ike" directed by Vuyani Bila (Artsake Productions) alongside Sello Ramolahloane and Isana Maseko which formed part of the Jozi film festival. In the hit South African feature film "Matwetwe" directed by Kagiso Lediga, Tumee portrayed the character of Ntswaki. She then went in a shoot a short film – “Toxic Love”written and directed by the legendary Paul Grootboom. Being a true thespian at heart and lover of the stage, she has portrayed multiple roles in theatre productions including Karina Lemmer’s "Code" co-written and directed by Eddie Thaba - Aardklop Festival in Potchefstroom. She received the “Best actress award in a lecturer’s production” at the Glass Crown Awards 2017 as Pula (young Simba) in Galeboe Moabi’s adaptation of The Lion KingKgosi Tau. She played the lead role of Emma in Bongani Masango’s “Maskitlana”alongside Mandla Gaduka at the South African State Theatre in 2019. Other theatre performances include Millicent Tintswalo's ‘She Cold’ (2016), ‘Day of Absence’ (2017- 2018) - performed at the South African State Theatre and Maitisong Arts Festival Botswana - directed by Diamond Mokoape as well Kgaogelo Tshabalala’s “Almost” (2018) where she powerfully played two challenging roles- Vanessa 27 and Kgothatso 13. Tumee is also an Industrial Theatre Actor and has performed multiple shows with the Edutainment Company- StageFright as well as Setwork around South Africa with the company Ezamazwe Productions (short stories, My Children My Africa and Sofiatown)- 2018-2021. She still tours with Purple Apple Productions doing setwork with Mandla Gaduka in townships and rural areas in the country. She recently concluded the shooting of a feature film (Ka Bohaleng, Artsake productions) scoring a lead role (anticipated 2026) which ultimately paved her way into the stage reading of Dr. Jerry Mofokeng waMakheta’s Mantsopa in 2024. Mantsopa the production was then directed by Dr. Jerry and performed at the Market Theatre in May 2025 with Itumeleng effortlessly portraying the character of Ntsheiseng alongside Ms Florence Masebe and Lesotho actor Tseko Monaheng. It was in this production that Tumee showered the audiences with her emotional range and intelligence, vocal strength and physicality of multiple characters demanded by Ntsheiseng’s role in the play. Dr. Jerry Mofokeng describes Tumee as a force to be reckoned with, a Dynamite in a small package. With a gracious heart she continues her acting journey on the stages while slowly breaking into Television. Tumee has gained a supporting role in a new anticipated series Critical but Stable S1 by Barkers Media which is set for release in 2026. Tumee is also a Presenter, Physical Theatre performer as well as a Children’s Theatre performer and director. She is vibrant, energetic and very passionate about her acting journey as well as the arts as a whole, so much so that between 2020-2024 - she did her cultural development internship and ultimately became a Project Coordinator at the Department of Sport Arts and Culture assisting artists in South Africa, ensuring to equip the youth of our country with the knowledge and skills to continue the contribution of talents within our entertainment industry. She believes that Art whispers Soul and telling stories is a way to break free from our traumas, to inspire nations and generations and to continue building the entertainment industry the essence of our realness.
