Candice van Litsenborgh is one of South Africa’s most prolific and versatile entertainers. An award-winning actress, singer, dancer, playwright, producer, voice artist, director, photographer, and educator, she has been a familiar presence in the South African arts industry for over three decades.
Originally from Port Elizabeth (now Gqeberha), she made her professional stage debut in CAPAB’s Noye’s Fludde just three months after matriculating. While working toward her Speech and Drama Teacher’s Licentiate through the Rother Swain Drama Studio, she also obtained Trinity College London Performer’s Certificates in both Acting and Musical Theatre through Stageworld Theatre School and began teaching, directing, and performing—earning multiple local acting and technical awards before moving to Cape Town to study at the University of Cape Town. She graduated top of her class with a BA in Theatre and Performance.
Her 30 year career spans across multiple mediums and continents. She has been nominated for four Fleur du Cap Awards and a Naledi Award, winning the 2025 Fleur du Cap for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for The Addams Family (Grandma Addams). Her musical theatre credits include Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Kinky Boots, Assassins, I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, Show Boat, Chess, Sweeney Todd, Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, The Little Mermaid, and Sunset Boulevard.
On screen, Candice’s credits include Resident Evil (Netflix), Desert Rose, Recipes for Love and Murder, Catch Me a Killer, Masinga: The Calling, Just Now Jeffrey, The Shakedown, Deuntjie and Bird Boy with Téa Leoni.
Through Canned Rice Productions, which she co-runs with her Richard Wright-Firth, Candice writes, directs, and produces original work including the multi-award-winning short film The Peculiar Pâté of Penelope Pringle (Runner-Up, Best Film – Cape Town 48 Hour Film Project 2025).
